
Toughened Glass from Saint Gobain
Toughened Glasses are about 4-5 times stronger than ordinary glass of the same thickness, since the toughening process (heating to ~620°C then rapid cooling) puts the surface into compression while the core stays in tension.
Instead of shattering into sharp, dagger-like shards, it breaks into small, blunt granular pieces, which greatly reduces the risk of cuts or serious injury. This is why it's mandatory in cars, shower doors, and building facades in many places.
